March Madness - Round 1

Well, after round 1 of the NCAA Basketball Tournament I'm in pretty good shape in my brackets.  A good number of my fellow bracketeers liked Kansas and had them going deep in to the tournament.  Unfortunately, Kansas lost in the first round for the second year in a row.  This puts me in pretty good shape with my overall points possible since I only had Kansas making it to the second round.

With the exception of some real surprises in the tournament, my formula is holding up fairly well.  Fortunately, my Final Four picks ( Duke, Villanova, Memphis, North Carolina ) are still intact.

Here's where things stand so far in my rankings.

Oh, and did I mention that Texas A&M beat Syracuse in the first round ?!?!?!

March Madness is here my friends!!!

I'm fortunate enough this year to have the pleasure of seeing the Aggies play as well.

My picks for my brackets this year are based the following criteria...

  • Team RPI
  • Conference RPI
  • Strength of Schedule
  • Pomeroy Ratings
  • Log-5 Ratings
  • Sagarin Ratings

    Calculations...

  • Quality Win Points = 1 pt for each win over 1-7 seed. 1/2 pt for each win over 8-16 seed
  • Overall Points = ( ( (Seed + Conf Rank + Losses + RPI + SOS + Pomeroy + Log5 + Sagarin ) / 8 ) - Quality Win Pts )

So, here they are...my overall rankings for the 2006 NCAA Men's Basketball Championship.

My Final Four picks are highlighted in red.
