Porches

This is a fascinating piece on porches.  This story hits home with me because Morgan and I have made it a tradition to spend quality time on our front-porch every evening after I feed her at 7pm.  It's a very special time for us as we watch the other neighborhood kids play and the cars drive by.  Morgan particularly enjoys listening to the birds and feeling the breeze in her hair.

I really do believe that front-porches can build a sense of community.  Spending time in our backyards with high privacy fences seems to inhibit our interaction with the outside world.  Experiencing random passers-by encourages all of us to say "hello" and interact in a healthy way with other folks who may be out enjoying the evening.
